The cruise vacation experience is often seen as only available to the more affluent traveler but that could not be further from the truth. There is a cruise vacation opportunity for anyone who wishes to experience the most memorable way to see beautiful destinations from a different point of view. There are many levels of cruise travel, from the low-priced cruise lines to the high-end luxury lines and everything in between, but they are not all created equally. This is where working with a Professional Travel Advisor, like me, helps to make sure that you are embarking on the proper journey that has been carefully, and artfully, crafted to meet your needs and desired experiences.
On a cruise you don't typically visit the major cities that every land-based vacation always targets, a cruise vacation gives you access to the coastal areas and unrivaled sites that you would not normally experience any other way. Cruise vacations are much more intimate in that they not only visit the more out-of-the-way places, they are actually part of your overall destination. Think of a cruise ship as your floating resort that moves from destination to destination while you sleep, allowing you to wake up in a new place every morning and to start a new adventure while adding to your travel memories. On land-based vacations, you don't get this level of service and exposure to the world, and you honestly spend more time going from place to place than you do enjoying any of them. Even worse when you think about those whirlwind tours of Europe. You know, the "see Europe in 10 days" trips. I spent 14 years there and didn't see it all, I can't imagine how you can see it in 10 days.
I can promise you that if you have never taken a cruise before, you are missing out on the best vacation experience that can be had. I can also promise you that when you take a cruise vacation, that has been properly and professionally planned for you, you will never want to return to the old vacation ways again. I know, there are always stories of bad cruise experiences but they all have one thing in common, well, actually two. The first is the traveler who books their own cruise, whether on one of the online booking sites or even directly with the cruise lines, is 90% more likely to have a negative experience because there are no professionals involved in the process who will share with you all of the things that you need to consider when booking a cruise. Cruise vacations have several moving parts that come together to create the overall experience and, unless you have experienced every little detail that a cruise has to offer, you have no idea what you should, and should not, be considering when booking your own cruise. When you book online, you aren't working with a human, and when you do, you aren't working with an experienced travel professional. In fact, you aren't even working with a human who knows about travel most of the time. So, it is easy for a traveler to find themselves facing more things that they need to add to their cruise once they have boarded the ship and these things cost money. There are also many inexperienced travelers who make reservations or purchases that they just didn't need, again, due to not having someone who has their best interests in mind guide them through the process.
The second that these stories have in common is that they would have been much more satisfied by working with a true travel professional because, when, not if, something comes up, that professional is there to keep things on track and where they should be. There is a common misunderstanding about travel agents and what they do or how they do it. There are also many different names for what we do, such as: travel advisor, travel consultant, travel designer, and some that are even more creative like dream designer and so on. Some of these titles are just thrown around by many in the industry but few actually know the difference. I will try to explain it as easy as possible. There are your typical travel agents who there to help you go on that long awaited vacation and they are ready to sell you whatever you want to get there. The problem here is that traditional travel agents just sell travel, they have sales goals and targets to achieve and that is what their focus is because that is the agency mantra. Then you have the other titles, of which I am officially one, I am a Professional Travel Advisor. I don't sell travel based on goals or targets because that is not my business model nor how I work. I work with individual travelers (or groups) to design and curate special travel experiences for the purpose of honest relaxation, connecting with others, and experiencing the world. I help travelers create long-lasting memories and experiences with loved ones, family, friends, or to even meet new friends. I don't even target a travel product or platform until you and I have established what you want your vacation to be. I custom fit the travel product to your desired experience and I am there with you throughout the entire process, even while traveling, to provide advice, guidance, and assistance when needed. And when you return home, I am ready to talk to you about how your trip was so that we can start looking at future travel and keeping the memories and experiences going. You won't find that from booking online, and that is a fact, and you won't find that from the traditional travel agent because all they want to do is sell product and make numbers.
When COVID hit the world, travel shut down and there were thousands of people stranded across the globe that were just trying to get home and to safety. The vast majority of these travelers were the DIY travel type and had booked all of their travel on their own, and they found themselves without any assistance from the source from which they had booked their travel. As travel professionals, we not only had to get our clients back home safely and as quickly as possible but we also were there to help them get reimbursed for their lost travel so we were working extra hours with suppliers to make it right, and we did it successfully. But we also had another issue arise and that was the increased requests for assistance from the DIY travelers who were looking for anyone that could help them. We did what we could to help get them home, but we often could not do much more because when you don't book your travel through an official agency or with a travel advisor, we can't do the same things for you that we can do for our own travelers because we have no standing or authority to intervene on your behalf, our travelers have us on their side. We still helped where we could but it became a harsh lesson for many people. Even though you can book directly with the suppliers of travel, they overwhelmingly prefer that you use a human travel professional because they know that when something goes wrong that they will be working with someone who has been professionally trained and has abundant experience with your best interests in mind. Travelers who have placed their vacations in the hands of a trained professional have always had glowing reviews of their experiences and they use their travel professional for everything they do that is travel related. Why would you want to risk your investment in travel when you can have peace of mind and support when times get tough?
